Step 1: Go to http://mailchimp.com and click on the red ‘Sign Up Free’ button located towards the bottom right-handed corner of the page
Step 2: You should now see this screen:
Enter your email, the username you would like to use and a password. Click ‘Create My Account.’ You will then need to verify your account by clicking a link in the email that Mailchimp has sent you
After activating you account, you will then be asked to confirm the sign up. This is done by entering a Captcha code. After entering the Captcha, click on the ‘Confirm Signup’ button.
Step 3: You should now see Mailchimp’s log in screen. This is where you enter your username and password that you had chosen in Step 2. After entering your username and password, click the ‘Log In’ button.
Step 4: Your next step to setting up your Mailchimp account consists of adding your company or business information. First, you will need to fill out your security questions. Hover over the ‘Security Question’s’ drop down and choose a question that would be appropriate for you. Remember to enter in the answer to that question on the right-hand side.
The second step is adding your name and address (or your clients name and address).
You need to fill out all sections to complete this step of setting up a Mailchimp account.
Next, enter in information about your organization or your clients organization.
Then click the ‘Save And Get Started’ button at the bottom of the page. You will then be redirected to a ‘How Mailchimp Works’ page. Scroll to the bottom and click the red ‘Lets Go’ button.
Step 5: Click on ‘Create a List’
This will take you to a page where you can set up your newsletter list. The page will look something like this:
List Name: This will be the name of your newsletter list. We suggest naming it some generic such as your clients Business name
Default From Name: This who the newsletter email is from. We generally also use the clients business name for this
Default Repy To Email: This is the email that subscribers can reply to
Default Subject: We recommend using something like “News from client’s Business”
Remind People How They Got On Your List: This a good way to remind them that they left a review on the clients review engine
Click on the ‘Save Button’ at the bottom of the page.
If you are finding you are still having difficulty creating a list, please see the helpful links below the ‘Save’ Button
Step 6: Now you can design you sign up forms! Click on the green ‘Design Sign Up Forms’ button on the left-hand side
Once you have clicked the button, find the ‘Forms & Response Emails’ drop down. Select “Opt-In Confirmation Email.”
Here is where you can edit the wording in your newsletter. By mousing over the title of your newsletter, you can also add a personalized header. Once you are done editing your Opt-In Confirmation Email, click ‘Save & Exit.’
Next, select ‘Final “Welcome” Email’ from the drop-down menu. Again, you can edit this message and add a personalized header. Once you are done editing, click ‘Save & Exit.’
Step 7: Now we can connect Mailchimp to the forms in your review engine. To do this, go to back to your review engine and mouse over ‘Genesis.” Then select ‘UPGRADED’ from the drop down menu.
Scroll down in the ‘UPGRADED’ page until you see space to enter Mailchimp API Key and a List ID.
To find your Mailchimp API Key, go back to Mailchimp and mouse over ‘Account’ on the top toolbar. Under ‘Extras,’ select ‘API Keys & Authorized Apps.’ Click on ‘Add a Key.’ Copy and paste the generated key into the ‘Mailchimp API Key section on your review engine ‘UPGRADED’ page.
Next, find the List ID by going to Mailchimp and clicking on ‘Lists’ on the top toolbar. You should see the list you recently created. Click on the gear icon located on the right-hand side and select ‘List Settings & Unique ID’ under ‘Settings.’
Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the Unique List ID. Copy and past this into the List ID section on your review engine ‘UPGRADED’ Page.
Click ‘Save Settings’ at the bottom of the page.
You have now created your Mailchimp newsletter and connected it to your review engine!
